The villages of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez offer magnificent settings for festival-goers and music enthusiasts of all ages. If you enjoy dancing, discovering new sounds, and being carried away by the most melodious music performed by talented musicians, here is a selection of concerts and festivals for this month of August.
Thursday, August 3rd: les nuits de la Nartelle in Sainte-Maxime
Chani BAUZA, mezzo-soprano, and Pascal HOYER, ten-string guitarist, will be performing in the first part of the event.
The Hoza duo interprets opera and oratorio repertoire in an intimate format, reduced to its purest expression, using their stripped-down instrumentation (ten-string guitar and vocals) to share these magnificent and timeless airs with the audience.
Chani Bauza has always had a passion for singing and a desire to explore all facets of her interpretive personality, first in jazz, sound painting, and world music before turning to lyrical singing. She graduated in chamber music and lyric art from the Conservatory of Aix-en-Provence and has worked with Teresa Berganza at the Villecroze Academy and Panticosa Festival (Spain), at the opera studio in Weimar, and with Regina Werner Dietrich in Leipzig. Her rich and eclectic singing journey has allowed her to develop an approach that emphasizes sensitivity and emotion.
While performing in operas, contemporary creations, and numerous oratorios, she nurtures a special attachment to chamber music and recitals, where her natural expressiveness blossoms. Pascal Hoyer has been studying classical guitar since a young age, developing an early taste for ensemble music and adaptations of Baroque pieces.
In their conception of music as a duo, they seek to create harmony between voice and instrument, creating the most favorable conditions for the soloist’s musical expression while emphasizing a true musical dialogue with precision and mutual listening.
Chani BAUZA & Catherine STERNIS, pianist – Part 2
Catherine Sternis completed her musical studies at the Conservatory of Nice under the guidance of Mrs. Audibert Lambert in the piano class. She received the grand prize of the city of Nice unanimously with the jury’s congratulations for her interpretation of Franz Liszt’s 2nd concerto. She also received her first prize in chamber music. She is the partner of the choirs Calliopée and Cantouvèze conducted by Christine Paillard.
She regularly participates as an organist and pianist in concerts of the European Choir of Provence.

Monday, August 21st: Chimène Badi will perform a tribute to Edith Piaf
The city of Saint-Tropez is organizing the first music and theater festival « La Moutte entre en scène » from August 20th to 24th, 2023. Five concerts and shows with affordable tickets will feature renowned artists such as Philippe Caubère and Chimène Badi. Who better than Chimène Badi to celebrate Edith Piaf’s 60th anniversary since her passing in 1963?
Chimène shares so many similarities with La Môme (Piaf)! A powerful voice that draws its emotion from the wounds life has inflicted, a personality both strong and hypersensitive, a passion for beautiful words and melodies that linger in the mind and heart.
« I ‘discovered’ Piaf when I was very young, thanks to my mother. I think I was 3 or 4 years old when I got my first Édith cassette. Something happened, I don’t know what it is. I just know that she stirred something quite crazy within me. »
With 20 years of career experience, Chimène is ready to take on the iconic repertoire of the legend.
« It’s a project I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but I always waited for the right moment. I now have the experience and greater confidence in myself, which gives me the desire to finally pay tribute to the one who guided me and taught me so much. Singing Piaf is a challenge … it’s immersing myself in her lyrics, understanding the joy and euphoria, but also the suffering and pain. When I sing Édith, I don’t know why, something pierces through me, taking me elsewhere. It’s passionate! »
In a theatrical setting, Chimène will perform the most iconic songs of Edith Piaf, a repertoire that has given French chanson its nobility.
