« As a child, I wanted to play the guitar and travel the world. It was my dream. »

A dream that took time to fulfill, as his early life was fraught with difficulties. Descendant of the Burundian royal family, J.P. Bimeni left his country at age 15 during the 1993 civil war. After surviving three assassination attempts (witnessing his classmates killed at school, being pursued by a militia member on a motorcycle, and a poisoning attempt at the hospital), he was granted refugee status, fled his country, and arrived in Wales. He later moved to England in the early 2000s.

His childhood dream came to fruition in this new chapter of life, where self-taught J.P. Bimeni began his career playing and singing at university open mic nights.

Through hard work and passion, he released his debut album “Free Me” in 2018, blending warm soul ballads with fiery funk jams. The artist’s compositions are influenced by his challenging life experiences, which he has transformed into a source of inspiration. This incredible soul and afro-soul singer cites idols like Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, and Sam Cooke, and was even dubbed “the Burundian Otis Redding” by the press.

Not stopping there, he released his second album “Give Me Hope” in 2022, which breathes optimism and pays homage to Martin Luther King and James Stern, a militant who became the president of a neo-Nazi organization to dismantle it from within. He channels the groove of his hero Otis Redding while reflecting on serious themes. “Give Me Hope” blends classic 60s Motown with soul, psychedelia, and afro-funk inspired by Stax.

J.P. Bimeni’s sunlit voice touches the soul, revealing deep consciousness and vulnerability while maintaining pop sensitivity.

With immense talent, in 2024, he collaborates with Moby on the track “Should Sleep.” A lover of the stage and his audience, praised by critics, he performs extensively across Europe and will join us for a special date at the Grimaldines.

J.P. Bimeni will captivate you with his powerful voice, wide vocal range, and exceptional depth, delivering profound emotions with his engaging lyrics and making you groove to hopeful, danceable rhythms.

« Race » (released in 2016)

In the 1930s, Jesse Owens, a young African American from a working-class background, is preparing to compete in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. As Owens battles personal struggles against pervasive racism, the U.S. is uncertain about participating in these Games, which are being hosted by Nazi Germany. The debate is intense between Olympic Committee President Jeremiah Mahoney and prominent industrialist Avery Brundage. Yet, Jesse’s determination to compete remains unwavering.

A poignant exploration of racism, tolerance, and respect. Free screening at 9:30 PM.

August 14 to 16: Three Days of Music, Games, and Flavors!

Provence is a land of traditions, and Grimaud is no exception! From August 14 to 16, the village is in a festive mood…

This celebration has its roots in the distant past. Originally a religious festival honoring the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on August 15, it evolved into the village festival, historically marked by a large agricultural fair in the grounds of the Chapelle Notre Dame de la Queste. Farmers and merchants from across the Gulf would come to buy and sell goods and livestock.

It was also a time for revelry, featuring music and dance, traditions that remain close to the hearts of the locals. Today, from land to sea, this village festival continues to celebrate tradition, whether through religious ceremonies with masses and processions, festive activities like dances, shows, and fireworks, or culinary delights at the gourmet event in La Queste.
